On the go

I have to hand it to the government of Finland – they’ve found a way to make their new passport both secure and fun at the same time.  Each page of the passport has a small moose on the lower right corner, essentially turning the passport into a flip book. Check it out in the video below.

I’d love to see a Canadian version of this – the winning goal in a hockey game perhaps?

Who’s that girl

Image

I saw this on F*** Yeah, Typography (this awesome Tumblr with all sorts or great typography. that i love.) and it got me thinking about how our personalities adapt based on the situations we’re in.

For those of you I’ve met on the road, I’m probably a little more outgoing than for those of you who know me from other aspects of my life. Maybe it’s because I’ve done quite a bit of solo travelling, so I’ve had to make friends along the way? Bit of a fight or flight type scenario?

Follow the rainbow

Image

Walking around Toronto’s Kensington Market yesterday, we stopped in an awesome local shop called Good Egg. Though primarily a cookbook store, they did have a super cute travel section featuring some BEAUTIFUL guidebooks/travel related books.

Here are three of my favourite snaps – and books – from yesterday’s visit.

Could really use this right about now…

Could really use this right about now...

I’ve been back from Europe for about 4 days now (more detailed post with pics to come!) but am still feeling the jet lag. This could come in super handy. Where can I find one?!

Mountain sound

There’s something about mountains that just makes me feel so small. A good reminder of how big this world we live in really is.

Salut Paris

20130308-233636.jpg

Though it’s technically my third time visiting the city of light, this is the first time I’ve felt like I’m truly experiencing the culture of the city. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen all of the major touristy sights and this time can just be, or maybe it’s because we’re renting an apartment as opposed to hostelling, but one day in and I’m already noticing a difference.

Today’s pic is a little collage of some of the great stuff I saw today: our super cute airbnb apartment in Le Marais, a local resto we passed while exploring the city (that to me is exactly what a restaurant in Paris should look like) and part of a window display from an adorable shop where I bought an equally adorable ring.

A bientot!

Mashup

Mashup

IKEA and Marriott have partnered to create a chain of (in true IKEA fashion) reasonably-priced yet stylish hotels they’re calling Moxy. The first is set to launch in Milan.

Designs were released yesterday – what do you think?

Laneways and Spraypaint

I fell in love with Melbourne’s laneways when I was backpacking Australia two years ago – all sorts of cafes, independent shops and colourful people abound. I felt like I was in one of the most colourful and artistic places that existed.

One of the defining characteristics of these laneways is the street art that covers them. Check out this Lonely Planet video about the street art and some of the artists that create it. Next time I’m in Melbourne, I’m definitely taking this tour.
