Holding pattern

Image

It’s been a while since I last posted. Things got busy (not a good excuse, I know) and then my collection of items to post became overwhlemingly large (a trip to Vietnam, a road trip through Costa Rica, amongst other things), but this group of images of airports from above that I came across on one of my favourite blogs has inspired me to get back at it. Who knew that airports could be so visually interesting?

Check them all out here – the airport will never look the same to me again…

Social travel

Photo sharing lets friends travel with friends, or even strangers travel with strangers. It’s classically been said that a photo says 1,000 words, which is why I think things like Instagram have taken off as a quick and easy way to share updates with your networks. I came across this video today by Thomas Julien and it got me thinking about doing something with the travel pics on my Instagram account…

Move

Every time I see this beautiful film I get a little more wanderlusty. I think it really captures the energy of being on the road, and I love seeing how they’ve caught some of my favourite places, like Paris and Peru.

Where does it make you want to go?

Know the way there like the back of my hand

How adorable is this compass bracelet from Etsy seller TeriLeeJewelry? The compass design is just symbolic enough to relate back to my wandering ways and its dainty chain makes it a versatile addition to any outfit. Adding to my wish list now!

I’ve long loved this cartoon from Toothpaste for Dinner – so true, right?

Happy travels this weekend!

On the topic of maps

On the topic of maps

I’ve been seriously intrigued by Maptia for the past couple of months. Launching in the next couple of months, Maptia’s goal is to be a beautiful, interactive map that users can be inspired by and record their own adventures. Fingers crossed that it’s up and running in time for my upcoming Vietnam adventure…

Get out the map

Get out the map

When I finished grad school, I knew that I wanted to travel before starting a full time job. After convincing my parents that it was the right thing for me to do (they wanted me to start my career right away; I made a PowerPoint presentation to convince them otherwise), off to Europe I went.

Though portions of my trip were solo, I did meet up with a friend in Berlin. It turned out to be one of my favourite cities that I’ve ever visited, and one I hope to return to.

I loved this map of Berlin by French designer Armelle Caron the moment I saw it. The left shows the true layout, and the right a linear alignment of the city.

Designer guides

Something caught my eye today: it was a headline on PSFK that read “LOUIS VUITTON LAUNCHES TRAVEL BOOKS COLLECTION.”

I just had to see what this was all about.

Turns out that Louis Vuitton recently worked with four artists (Natsko Seki, Cheri Samba, Jean-Philippe Delhomme and Daniel Arsham) to create stunning travel guides for London, Paris, New York and Easter Island. (Yes, I was thrown off by the fourth destination as well…)

I’d love to get my hands on this collection…

Brown bag it

Brown bag it

I was in NYC for work last weekend, but of course managed to find a couple of hours to head to the shops. A friend took me to a clothing store in the Meat Packing District called OWEN NYC – it had the most innovative decor I’ve ever seen: the walls were completely covered in brown paper bags. People’s creativity never ceases to amaze me!

Daily inspiration

Daily inspiration

South East Asia is next on my travel list, so these awesome map coasters from fellow Canadian Jonathon Wayne Design might soon act as a daily reminder. He does coasters with maps from a ton of places, so check them out if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration with your coffee too.
